Books & Procrastination

Yup... that's what I have been so busy doing over the last month! I have just been having so much fun lately becoming totally inspired by everyone else's blogs & creations that I haven't had much time for my own but HEY! ...We all need a break from time to time :o) Thanks to all of you who left those little messages through my e-mail, blog, flickr & etsy telling me you missed me!

I have been sewing a bit here & there but not as much as usual because I have started reading again... yes, I haven't picked up a novel since before Claire was born (4 1/2 years ago) and I forgot how time consuming it can be... especially if you read two 950 page novels in two weeks! I admit I am a fantasy girl and have been utterly enthralled in the new television series Legend of the Seeker. This series is like nothing I have ever seen on TV! It's like one long epic motion picture. The film quality, acting, & special effects are all top notch. It is based on Terry Goodkind's Wizards First Rule so I started reading to find out what REALLY happens!! I find that books are always better that the film version! I have just started the third novel in the series.

During my break, I have collected a large number of photos in a folder titled "to blog about". It's been so long that I just can't go back that far to catch up in order so what I am going to try to do is every time I blog about something new, I will throw in something old that hopefully relates in some way!

This week I sewed some more Book Pillows. One of my bestest customers requested two smaller ones (6x8x2inches/ 15x20x5cm) and this time I remembered my rule to always make more than one! That means there are three extras in my shop :o) I was really happy with the label for the Beloved Poems book. I finished it off with a border of french knots and cotton crochet trim...

I also listed my tiny "teapot" wall hanging in my shop at the same time. The idea came to me while I was surfing Etsy and saw these long wooden beads from SupplyCandy. As soon as I saw them I knew exactly what I would make!

Don't you love how a little thing like a bead can inspire a whole piece of art?!

Enjoy your afternoon tea & quilted crafts :o)

  3. Hi, welcome back!
I am glad to see you are still sewing and I know exactly what you mean about books and getting totally absorbed in them... I haven't picked up a book in years... I haven't heard of that author I will have to look him up... I am also a fantasy girl... Magic and good versus evil are fab... I think the last books I read were by Janny Wurts and David Gemmel so perhaps its time to pick up a new book...

Loving the sewing beautiful as ever...

    X Alex

  4. Nice to see you here again, it's the same for me as far as books concerns... I have a 1,1/2 years old child and it's impossible to find free time for reading...
On the other hand I like to see the thing you do... Don't read so much, je,je
    Have a nice week

  5. It's funny how time can get away from you isn't it. Before you know it a month has gone since you blogged last and it feels as though it was only a week ago. I find your blog so inspiring and love your little teapot wall hanging. You come up with the most simplest ideas that look so amazing. I borrowed the book "Pretty Little Purses & Pouched" from my local library the other week and loved your pattern for the teacup pouch. I actually made one from seeing them on you blog but changed it so that it was a lot smaller. I have a photo of it on my blog here http://richesstitches.blogspot.com/2008/11/i-woke-up-feeling-very-blah-today-so-i.html
Good to read from you again.

  20. What a wonderful blog. Found you through Stephanie of LoftCreations. I found reading conflicted with crafting, so now I listen to audio books while I craft. Almost all the books I want to read/hear are available from the library. Give it a try. You'll become hooked!

  21. Oh... I am currently working my way through those books. I am up to book 10, but lost interest at about book 4. Stubbornly I persist with the story.

However if you like them, authors that I think are better of similar genre are Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series... or even better George RR Martin's "A song of ice and fire" series.

  22. Thanks Metanoia,
I have read the "Wheel of Time" series and loved it up until about book 5 or 6... Definitely one of my favourite series! Right now, I am finding it difficult to get through book 5 of the Sword of Truth series "Soul of the Fire". I have never heard of "A Song of Ice and Fire" so I will definitely look for it next time I go to the book store :o)
I also liked "The Elenium" Trilogy by David Eddings.
    Hugs, Laurraine

  23. I just found your blog and I saw this post- so I had to comment!
First of all, I love your work - everything is so whimsical and adorable!!!!

Secondly, I wanted to post because I just found the tv show, too & am really enjoying it! I read the Terry Goodkind series a few years ago and loved it so much - the tv show is fun and reminding me of the stories - you're sure to enjoy the books much better.

I'm in love with your coffee cup pouches - I'm hoping the pattern is in one of your books.
