Colours & Spice

The beautiful part of Autumn is almost over. The crisp colourful beauty of the falling leaves replaced by colourless shivers as the world begins its slumber.

There is nothing I love more than the scent of warm cinnamon & nutmeg rising from the oven... except for collecting leaves!

I find leaves inspiring... the colours & markings on each one is unique. They inspire me to sew & to paint. By the time the last leaf falls, every window ledge and table in my home is adorned with nature's treasures.

Which one shall I paint today?

I picked our first persimmon this week. It was crunchy & sweet. Percy has been entertained by chickadees taking baths and squirrel acrobats walking sunflower tight ropes. Our cat's full name is actually Percy Persimmon named after the orange fruit... although in hindsight we should have named him Percy Pumpkin because he weighs twenty pounds!

It's time to bake some more pumpkin pie! Last month's was super delicious. I make it with coconut milk and it's truly luscious. Honestly, I think that pumpkin pie should be enjoyed all year round!

Enjoy your afternoon tea & quilted crafts :o)

  2. I'm amazed at Percy Pumpkin's size! Wow.. what a doll. That would be a perfect name for him! Your autumn leaves are gorgeous.. we don't have very many like that here in central Oregon where it's so dry that they fall off too soon and don't turn the gorgeous colors. I agree with you....pumpkin pie should be enjoyed year-round. I'm going to try some other pumpkin desserts that I saw the other day, like pumpkin cheesecake (yum) and pumpkin bars (double yum!). I just love everything pumpkin!

    1. He's the most gentle cat ever! We love him loads :) Oh wow... maybe I can make myself some dairy-free pumpkin cheesecake... that would be delicious!! I usually use butternut squash and sweet potatoes in lieu of pumpkin. Now is the time for all that Christmas baking. I told myself not to leave it all until the last minute this year! Hugs, L

  3. Really beautiful painted leaves. I have to say autumn is my favourite season. Just a note, the world is not beginning its slumber just the northern hemisphere, here in the southern hemisphere it is spring, delightful and green. Interesting to hear about Percy, is he a big framed cat to be so heavy, I thought mine were solid, muscular not flabby, at 7 kilos, they are midgets in comparison. He looks like he is having fun watching the bird display.

    1. Thanks! I meant the "world" around me ;) I was just trying to be slightly poetic ;P

20lbs is about 9kg. Percy is part Maine Coon. His body is really long and can reach the top of the counter with his back paws touching the floor. He's big in general but also a bit squishy in the tummy area! And he is really a dog stuck in a cat's body!

When he watches birds, his strong tail wacks the wall so hard that I've mistaken it before for someone knocking on the door!

      Enjoy your Spring!
